Grandma’s Quilt

My little sister and I made this quilt for our mom.  I saw this pattern at a quilt shop and thought it would be a nice quilt for my mom because she likes the “over the river” song, but I didn’t buy the pattern until after I came across the fabric that Moda had made called Glace.  Once I saw the fabric I knew that it would go perfectly with the pattern because it is a nice sublte Christmasy print.  So I bought the pattern and fabric last October and called my sister and asked her if she would be interested in doing the embroidery work on it.  Embroidery is more her forte and piecing is more my thing.  So I figured between the two of us we could make this quilt really nice.  We tried to get it done before Christmas last year, but Kirby was finishing up her batchelors degree and I had stuff going on too so we didn’t get it finished in time.  I finished getting it pieced this spring and sent off to the quilters.  I went with a quilter I hadn’t used before, which always makes me nervous but she did a really good job for a very reasonable price.  I was happy with all the detailing she did on it.  There are stars in the sky,  snow like quilting on the ground and she did snowflakes in the stars inbetween the panels, and ivy leaves on the sashing, soo many nice little touches.  I’m happy with the way it turned out and I hope my mom acutally uses it as a lap blanket instead of hanging it on the wall.  🙂

I LOVE this quilt! Beautiful! I am a big fan of hand work. It is becoming a lost art.
Please come link this up to my “Sew Fabulous Friday” Link Party. I think it would be a great addition.
