Pinterest Love

I {LOVE} Pinterest!  There are soo many fun ideas on there and it’s such a great way to bookmark all of the projects that I want to work on.  I have learned a few great tips from sites that other people have bookmarked.  For instance,

I have learned how to give myself a french tip manicure.

I have learned that lettuce stays fresher longer when you store it in a mason jar. (It works too!)

Not to mention all the great sewing ideas I have “pinned”.  Anyways, just wanted to share my latest favorite site with ya’all.

I should also mention that my website designer (aka little sister) had this adorable little bundle of love last weekend.

Isn’t she the cutest little thing?

July Visiting Teaching

It’s the end of the month and I didn’t get visiting teaching appointments scheduled like I should have. {Mahana, you ugly!}  I made up a batch of my favorite cookies (I’ve tweaked the recipe though – now I add in 3/4 cup dry oatmeal) and printed out the visiting teaching message for this month off of preparednotscared.blogspot.com

I promise I’ll be a good girl next month and get appointments scheduled!

Summer Fun – Sensory Bin

Is it hot where you are?  It’s hot here!  Too hot to go outside after 10 am anyways.  The girls were board of playing with their toys so I made them a very basic “sensory bin”.  I use that term loosely because I didn’t add tons of toys to dig for or anything.  It’s just rice with a funnel and measuring cups.  But you know what?  They played in it for a good 45 minutes!  Did they make a mess?  Yep, they did, but it was worth it!!  Here’s a more inspiring picture of a cute sensory bin from shareandremember.blogspot.com.

Ruffle Pillows

These ruffle pillows were so easy to make – I’m wondering why I didn’t make them sooner.  I had all the supplies on hand so this project cost me nothing.  I love it when you can make something soo nice out of things you already have.  KnowhatImean? I used a Bernina foot #64 (rolled hem foot) to roll the raw edges under and finish them.  Then I just gathered the 3 inch strips of fabric the old fashioned way.  A ruffler would be handy – but those things are so dang expensive.  Anyhow, I just wanted to show off my new {RUFFLY} couch pillows!  Love them!

Summer Lovin’

Ya know what I love about summer?

It takes just as long to dry the laundry on the line as it does in the dryer.

I’m just sayin’ . . .

Activity Days – Pizza/Water Party

Since it’s summer I thought it would be fun to just have a party for Activity Days.  Sister J picked up some pizza and rootbeer and I filled up a cooler with water balloons.  I asked the girls to bring water guns if they had ’em.

At church the outside water faucets require a key to be unlocked and used.   I think only the landscapers have access to those – so we brought our water storage barrels.  They needed to be rotated anyways.  I made Justin come so he could empty the water barrels into the swimming pool for me.  Thank goodness he came because I think the girls had more fun squirting him then anything.  He got back at them though.

One of the girls left her pizza alone for a minute and Maddy just plopped right down on her towel and helped herself.  “H” said it was okay, she was done anyways.  There weren’t very many girls at the activity – I think everyone was out of town.  But the girls that did show up had a great time!

Activity Days is an LDS activity for eight to eleven year old girls.

Bows!

A blog reader emailed me over the weekend and asked if I sell my bows.  Why, yes I do.  I love it when my friends ask for bows for their little girls.  I’m not going to set up a etsy shop or anything.  I don’t want to have a part-time job keeping that going.  But, if friends ever want bows made up I do make them for five dollars a piece.  Piggy bows are my favorite because they match a lot of different outfits.

Baby Shower

{My Mom, Little Sister, Me & Maddy}

Last Saturday my mom and I did a baby shower for my little sister.  I did the food and it turned out fan-freaking-tastic if I do say so myself.  Of course I did all my favorite foods, but anyways . . .  here’s what we had.

Hummus and pita chips.  This is how I make my hummus.

1 can great northern beans, drained and rinsed.

1 tsp. garlic salt

2 t. parsley flakes

a dash of olive oil

Put it in a mini food processer and puree until you get a good consistency.  That’s it.  I guess it’s more of a bean dip than a hummus, but whatever – I love it and everyone else loved it too.

Cream cheese filled strawberries.  Mmmhmmm. Here’s the low-down on how to make these. Bring 2 (8 oz.) packages cream cheese to room-temperature.   Mix with a electric beater until fluffy.  Add a 1/2 t. of vanilla and 3 T. powdered sugar and beat some more.  Put the mixture into a piping bag with a big star tip on it.  Wash and dry your strawberries and then cut into fourths but leave the base intact.  Open up the strawberry with your fingers and stick the icing tip down into the strawberry and squeeze your filling out.  And there ya go!

Cherry chocolate cupcakes with sour cream chocolate chip frosting.  I used this recipe that I posted here.  The only difference is I added a cup more of powdered sugar to the frosting so that it would be a little stiffer.  My mom also made chicken salad sandwiches with croissant rolls.  The food was soo stinkin’ good!

I hate baby shower games, but I think it’s a requisite that there be some kind of a game at a shower so I did the “guess what baby food this is” game.  I bought only single ingredient baby foods, because really, who can guess those crazy concoctions that they have out now-days.  The sticky labels come of really easy with a little goo-b-gone.  A lot of Kirby’s friends don’t have babies yet and some of them came up with some crazy guesses on the baby food.  I also made a really cute pendant banner but totally forgot to take a picture of it.  Oh well.  The baby shower went good and now I can move onto other projects!

Two Little Projects

I got {TWO} little projects done today! That’s a big deal with my high maintenance kids!  I made these cute little wedding cards on my silhouette machine.  I know this shape is meant as a car decal but it looks cute as a simple design on a card.  The people that the cards are for still seem (in my head at least) like they’re little kids.  It’s hard to imagine them all grown up and getting married.  I guess that makes me old.

Macey got invited to {another} birthday party! Yay!  At Whatever-mart right now they have a ton of Disney themed fabric for two dollars a yard.  Craziness!  I found some cute  princess fabric and a coloring book to match and made up a crayon roll.  I’m soo sick of plastic-crap toys and toys that require batteries that I’m on toy strike until Christmas.  I’m not buying toys at all until then.  I wonder if any other mom’s feel the same way?

Maddy unloaded my fabric box and climbed right in.  It’s a wonder I get anything done with my two little crazies around!

Father’s Day

Yuck! Sorry for the major bad picture.  It hurts my eyes to look at it.  I took it late last night when I finally got the cake balls done and the mess all cleaned up.  Justin wanted cake balls instead of cake for Father’s Day so that’s what we (Macey and I) made yesterday.  I also have to brag just a bit about the awesome Father’s Day card cutout I got off of Silhouette’s website.  So easy and soo cute!  I seriously love that machine.

Over the weekend we went to Kanab for a family reunion.  This swing is in front of my grandpa’s house.  I have memories of swinging in it when I was a little girl.  Actually I have memories of a cousin swinging me so high that I came down with leaves in my hair.

This is where the reunion was held.  I was in charge of doing a activity for kids – so I decided to do big bubbles.  See that big plastic bin behind Maddy with blue water in it?  I got my bubble solution all ready to go and the gnats came out in full force.  I was going to do a post about big bubbles and how you loop string through straws to make your bubble wands and how to make your solution, but once those bugs started attacking I ran for the house and left all the supplies out on the lawn for anyone who wanted to brave the bugs.  All in all it went okay and I’m glad to be home.  Now off to conquer mount washmore!
